Bend, Oregon Mountain Bike Map
Oh Bend - when I first started mountain biking, Bend was my favorite place to go for the trails. I’ve made several trips there, always loaded up with additional friends and all of the bikes. I’d camp just outside of the Phil’s trailhead area, on forest service land, where the riding is just a short pedal away. You can ride in the morning and then head to the Deschutes river (maybe with some local beers) to cool off, and wash off all that Bend dust in the afternoon.
Bend’s trail organization (COTA) has done an amazing job with the trail system - particularly with trail traffic management. Phil’s trailhead can be absolutely bursting with cars and bikes, but in my experience, once you start pedaling, those one-way trails keep down interactions and let you just roll on. Besides Phil’s, I also love riding Tylers, Funner/Tiddlywinks, and Metolius-Windego-Mrazak. I’ve not yet ridden at the Bachelor Bike Park, but hope to make it there eventually.
I don’t go to Bend as much anymore - it is so busy and the trails, while awesome, are a bit too similar to Boise trails to make the travel worth it. Plus it’s just fun to ride in new places! I loved making this map because Bend does hold a lot of great memories for me - I believe it is the first place I traveled to specifically for mountain biking, it’s the place where I took an actual mountain bike class (put on by Ladies All Ride - it was amazing and so worth it), and most recently got to watch good friends get married (and rode Tyler’s three times in three days, because it’s the most fun :)
