Zion National Park - Specifically the Canyons

Canyoneering the slot canyons in Zion National Park is up there on the list of cool things I’ve done. I feel fortunate to have skilled friends that I trust to lower me down a 200 foot, free-hanging rappel. I’ve never loved the feeling of dangling from a rope, but it’s all worth it to get deep into the dank, wet, and shadowy depths of these canyons. Beyond long rappels, canyons also offer wading through murky water, sometimes with large beetles or skinny worm-like creatures (and who knows what else - you can’t see the bottom!) You might go from sweating in shorts and a t-shirt, to shivering and pulling on a fleece when you reach a part of the canyon that rarely, if ever, sees sunlight. But these are the kinds of adventures you won’t forget - and I hope someday to explore more of the Zion canyons, and with any luck, venture further into Utah’s canyon country and beyond.

This map is a detailed look at the slot canyons within Zion National Park. Whether you’ve been inside some canyons, or stayed in the sunlight, this map will open your eyes to the geography of the park and let you dream up some future adventures.
