Mountain Bike Moab, Utah Map
My first mountain bike trip to Moab happened about a year after I took my first ride on a smooth trail in Boise, ID. I had moved up from a hard tail to a full-suspension bike, and though it was nothing special, it was one of my most prized possessions. We rode the non-snowy parts of Mag & (we were there late in the fall) and Amasaback, before Hymasa trail existed. So many ledges and drops! I walked a lot and wondered if I’d ever be able to ride this stuff - it seemed insurmountable. Now, many years and many MANY miles later, it’s so fun for me to return to Moab and see what new features I can ride. Last year I was able to clean all of Captain Ahab without stopping! There’s still plenty of sections that I can’t ride and I still have those “will I ever be able to?” thoughts. But that’s the fun of mountain biking - the challenge, the feeling of fear and then overcoming that fear, and the flat-out feeling of freedom and joy.
This map is all about mountain biking, but it’s just as much about the land the trails are on. That incredible relief that also happens to be so much fun on two wheels. The extent covers all the mountain bike hotspots in Moab: Amasaback, Mag 7, the Whole Enchilada, Navajo Rocks, Klondike, Klonzo, Moab Brand, and Slickrock. Arches National Park is also included. The color scheme is all about the red rock, but also the lighting in the later afternoon, when the sun is lower and golden, and you’re back at camp with your friends. This map is really about all that.
